JAMMU, Apr 13: Locals in Akhnoor area here foiled a bovine smuggling bid by rescuing three animals from the clutches of the smugglers.
They also staged a demonstration against the administration and police for their alleged failure in checking the bovine smuggling in the area.
As per available information, some individuals spotted a vehicle with three animals crammed inside it in a cruel manner at Khudha Village on Akhnoor-Rajouri road last night.
Accordingly, they chased the vehicle and stopped it near a check post. However, the driver of the vehicle managed to escape, during the chase the locals caught hold of his accomplice travelling in the vehicle, and later handed him to the police.
Followed by this, they staged a demonstration, raising slogans against the Government and police administration for their alleged failure to check bovine smuggling on Akhnoor-Khour-Jourian road.
According to SHO Akhnoor, Sanjeev Chib, a case under the relevant sections of the law has been registered against the accused at Police Station Akhnoor and further investigation taken up.
