UDHAMPUR, Aug 12: Agitated over the worst condition of Kanjli Mohalla Road, villagers of Kanjli Mohalla in Panchayat Battal held a strong protest against the Public Works (R&B) Department authorities, here today.
The protesting locals were raising slogans against the PWD and District administration for their failure to repair the one km road in the last ten years. They were demanding immediate repair and blacktopping of the road.
The villagers informed that the road from National Highway Battal to National Highway Birwan Bridges via Mohalla Kanjli, Panchayat Battal, Block Udhampur was contracted and blacktopped in the year 2011-12.
“Since then, it was never repaired, with the result its condition is very deplorable and not fit for plying vehicle or even walk smoothly on this road, which requires immediate repair and blacktopping,” they said, adding that there was damaged culvert on this road which also requires repair and raising of its height.
Extremely bad condition of this road was highlighted time and again by the people of Mohalla Kanjli with concerned department / authorities but there was no positive result, except some patch work around three years ago.
“We request the PWD and District administration to kindly look into the matter in the public interest and get the road repaired at the earliest,” they appealed.
Besides locals, some villagers from adjoining area also joined the protest and threatened an indefinite protest till the road is repaired. The protest demonstration was addressed by Bansi Lal Verma, Vijay Mannu, Sikander Singh, Prem Nath, Gourishanker, Sanjeev Kumar, Sudesh Kumar and Tirth Ram.
