UDHAMPUR, Nov 25: Locals of Jakhani area today held a strong protest for construction of Sharda Mata road.
Led by senior leaders Ashwini Khajuria and Preeti Khajuria, the protesting villagers raised slogans against the Forest department and demanded work on the road.
Ashwini Khajuria informed that Rs 7 crores have been sanctioned for the second time for Sharda Mata road, but the work was not being started because of objections by the Forest Department, which is insisting for a Van Nagar there.
“Van Nagar is not more important than providing basic facility of road to these at least 60 to 70 houses in the area,” he said and alleged that some officers of the department were aiming to achieve their goal of Van Nagar instead of keeping in mind the interest of the general public, who want road.
Preeti Khajuria also addressed the gathering and said that the proposal of Forest Department for changing the alignment of the road was not acceptable to the local people as it would result into cutting of about two hundred and fifty thousand trees.
