UDHAMPUR Mar 1: Locals of Jakhani area today held a strong protest against Udhampur Municipal Committee (UMC) demanding immediate shifting of the existing garbage dumping station at Jakhani near the National Highway.
They raised slogans against the Udhampur Municipal Committee (UMC) and demanded that the garbage dumping station should be shifted one kilometer away from Jakhani.
According to Syed Peer Gulzar Shah, the garbage was being dumped on the banks of river Tawi where filtration of water takes place for supplying the same to Udhampur town. One can think about the height of non- sense approach of Municipality officer who has ordered for dumping garbage on national highway, he added and expressed surprise that even PHE Department  has  not made any complaint to the administration in this regard.
The locals fear spread of jaundice, diarrhea and other diseases because of the pollution.
