Locals resent toll hike at Ban Toll Plaza

REASI, June 6: Residents of Reasi town and its adjoining areas have expressed resentment over toll tax hike at Ban Toll Plaza by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
Locals alleged that the residents of Reasi have to pay Rs 140 for every entry to go to Katra and Reasi for using only a small stretch of approximately 19 kms.
“They had staged several protest demonstrations against the Plaza for charging high rates from the locals but all in vain,” alleged locals, adding that they had even approached District Administration, Member Parliament and former MLAs of Reasi for resolving the issue but all of them have seem least bothered about it.
Criticising the working of the Plaza, the local youth said that the other Plazas installed at National Highway in Jammu and Kashmir have exempted locals from the taxes but it is only plaza which has been fleecing the locals since it has been installed here.
The locals urged the Lieutenant Governor and Ministry of Transport & Highways to intervene into the matter and sort out the issue at the earliest.
