JAMMU, Oct 15: Up in arms against razing of Gole Market Central Park, various organizations and local residents have opposed the proposed ERA plan of constructing a multi-storey parking at the park site.
In a joint statement issued by I C Jandial, secretary general of J&K Society of Technocrats and senior executive Dr C M Seth, the duo expressed shock over the statement of the Minister for Urban Development over construction of multi-storey parking upto first floor level in central park Gandhi Nagar area to overcome shortage of parking space.
“Notwithstanding the fact that this park is a main breather for hundreds of people living nearby area, the authorities are adamant in razing the green park thus grossly violating the Supreme Court directives issued from time to time on such issues,” they said and appealed the Minister to visit the area before embarking on this project, which can be built at two vacant plots available adjacent to central park.
President of the Association for Self Help and Awareness, Capt Anil Gour also opposed the ERA plan and said that the logic behind destroying this park for a parking lot whilst ignoring the other empty spaces around the same vicinity was not understood.
We take this opportunity to caution the Minister to stop this madness immediately and not destroy this park for the parking lot which can easily be built in the adjoining space for which the entire public will put in their wholehearted support, he said in a statement.
