Lohri celebrated with religious fervour, gaiety

JAMMU, Jan 13: Lohri was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety today.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrated Lohri at party headquarters here. On the occasion, BJP State President and MLA Sat Sharma, MP Shamsher Singh Manhas, State General Secretaries Ashok Kaul and Dr Narinder Singh, MLAs Rajesh Gupta, Sham Choudhary, Abdul Ghani Kohli, Priya Sethi and Shakti Parihar, MLCs Ramesh Arora, Charanjit Singh Khalsa along with large number of workers of all ages including high number of ladies took part in the programme. There was gaiety and festivity in the air and a bonfire was lit marking a symbolic farewell to the winter. Sweet and peanuts were exchanged and distributed at the festival.
Lohri festival was celebrated at Raghunath Temple with religious fervour and enthusiasm. In this connection a function was organized by J&K Dharmarth Trust. On the occasion, priests of Raghunath Temple chanted religious mantras and offered aahuties in the fire which was lit to celebrate Lohri. Later prashad was distributed among the participants and devotees. Secretary Dharmarth Trust Shashi Khajuria, staff members of the Trust, ITBP, J&K police officials were also present  on the occasion.
Dogra Sadar Sabha celebrated Lohri festival in the premises of the Sabha with religious fervor and zeal where members of working committee participated. The speakers in their speeches threw light on the importance of this festival. Gulchain Singh Charak, President, Dogra Sadar Sabha while speaking, prayed for the universal brotherhood, peace and social harmony of the region and the State. Dr NK Dogra, senior vice president, Prem Sagar Gupta, general secretary, Munish Pathania and Romesh Chander were also present on the occasion.
JKNPP celebrated Lohri at different places including in Jammu, Punjab and New Delhi. Prof Bhim Singh on the occasion extended greetings to all with a hope that humanity will live with dignity, honour and peace all over the world.
On the occasion of Lohri, a classical music event was organized by Tejpunj Society. All the participants of the event were children below 12 years of age. The chief guest was PK Sambyal, Director at All India Radio, Jammu, whileas guest of honour was Dr Sumit Madan, an instrumentalist. Sanjay Kaul, a Tabla maestro was the special guest. Gianeshwer Sharma, Sahitya Academy awardee for child literature was the other special guest. Welcome address was presented by Vivek Sharma, Hony. Secretary Tejpunj Society. On the occasion, various cultural items were performed.
Vikram Malhotra, General Secretary, JKPCC celebrated Lohri in the traditional way by lighting bonfire at Hari Nagar locality of Ward Number 7 along with the residents of the colony. While speaking, Malhotra gave a message of peace and brotherhood and urged upon the people to consign to fire the hatred and the evil within. Jeet Raj, Chairman, Ram Lal, Atul Sharma, Sandeep Gandotra, Gulshan Mehra, Happy, Deepu and Poli Devi were also present on the occasion.
Youth Congress celebrated Lohri with old aged people in Old Age Home Ambphalla and distributed fruits, sweets, etc. Ricky Dalotra, general secretary Youth Congress Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha Constituency, Anoop Gupta, general secretary Jammu-Poonch, Daljeet Singh, Rocky Kumar, Tushar Kumar, Tipu Kumar, Janmeet Singh, Chetan Sabarwal, Varun Kumar and Rahul Kumar were present on the occasion.
The festival of Lohri and Makar Sankranti’ was celebrated by Iron Rush–A Complete Family Health Club at Ambika Vihar, Greater Kailash. Ishant Gupta, District President, BJYM was the chief guest, while Anil Kumar, Rohit Verma, Pushpinder Bharti, members and Management were also present on the occasion. The traditional fire was lit and various nuts and sweets were offered. The enthusiastic workers danced on the tunes of drum beats. Manjit Singh, Akshay Mahajan, CP Singh, Rajan Gandotra, Sanju, Munish Sharma, Karan Aggarwal, Angraj Singh, Nitika and others took part in the celebrations.
The inmates of Jammu Red Cross Society (JRC) Home for Handicapped, Udheywala and Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan (BLSKS) celebrated Lohri with the families of governing body members of home. The function was inaugurates by chief guest Former DIG Vijay Sambyal in presence of PC Kapoor, President, JRC Home, Sat Paul Sharma, President Bhartiya Yog sansthan, Anil Sharma, Secretary Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, Shriyansh Jain, President Vichar Kranti Morcha, Savanter Aggarwal, Prithi Pal and ML Dogra, Chairman, BLSKS. Over 80 inmates including 20 deaf and dumb presented scintillating cultural performance. Artists of BLSKS also staged colorful cultural program focusing on the importance of the celebration of the day.
On the occasion of Lohri, Canal Road Walkers Welfare Association organized a get together function at walkway track. People from all walks of life, men, women and children from nearby localities assembled and had a great fun. A talk by motivational speaker, Vickrant Mahajan was delivered on “Superpositivity” on the theme of his latest book ‘Yes Thank You Universe’. Advocate VK Sharma, general secretary of the association, Hoshnak Singh, finance Secretary and executive committee members Er Dharm Vir Verma, Davinder Nath Mehta, Gourav Sharma, Jagdish Raj Sharm, Kuldip Raj Bhatti, Dr MR Sharma, Onkar Singh Charak, RL Kak and Rajan Gupta also attended the function.
The members of NGO Jio aur Jeene Do celebrated Lohri by organizing a ‘Sarva Dharma Prarthna’ at Tilak Nagar. President Tariq Shah, along with Saleem Paul, Sanjay, Aftab, Kaushlya, Amarjeet Singh and others expressed their views regarding importance of the day.
New Young Blood Organization celebrated Lohri festival at Vridh Ashram, Ambphalla. Chairman of the organization along with RR Raina, President, J&K Sangram Sena, Suplesh Sharma, Naveen Gupta, Kuldeep Singh, Dr Rajinder Thapa, TS Premi and Rakesh Verma distributed eatables among the inmates of the home.
Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha, Parade, celebrated Lohri festival with enthusiasm. A colourful function was organized, in which large number of people took part. Purshotam Sharma highlighted the religious background of Lohri festival. Satyanand Sharma, Surinder Sharma, Shiv Charan Dass, Jagan Nath Sharma, Shiv Ram Sharma, besides many others were present on the occasion.
A colourful cultural bonanza was organized by the inmates and administrative staff of District Jail Poonch to celebrate Lohri festival. On the occasion, Mohammad Rafiq, Superintendent of the Jail lit the bonfire to inaugurate the celebrations. It was followed by cultural programme.
To commemorate Lohri festival, 395th Lohri Day Tree Talk was organized, which was attended by Morning Walkers and tree management experts. The participants focused on forest food trees having therapeutic value and nutritional significance with potential for innovative value addition. Prof Bholanath Sharma, Dy CPO Subhash Sharma, Dr Jagdish Sharma, bewsdies many others expressed their views regarding different issues.
Congress workers under the chairmanship of Dewan Chand, Congress President, Ward Number 47 and Rita Kumar, Ex-Corporator of the Ward celebrated Lohri festival at Press Morh, Bahu Fort. People from different sections of the society participated in the programme.
All J&K OBC Maha-Sabha under the chairmanship of Kasturi Lal Basotra, President, Sain Samaj celebrated Lohri festival. Dr Tara Chand, Chief Advisor, Ajudhiya Kumar Manawa, President, Prajapati Sabha, Mukhtiar Lal Kalia, President, Bazigar Community, Mohan Lal Pawar, general secretary, Tilak Kashyap, secretary, Bansi Lal Choudhary, Convener of OBC Maha Sabha, Vijay Mehra, Convener and Dr Ram Lubiya, President, Kashyap Sabha Peer Mitha addressed the gathering.
Durga Natak Mandli celebrated Lohri with religious gaiety and fervour. Mandli President Sanjeev Khajuria distributed sweets among the people and threw light on the importance of the festival.
A function was organized on the occasion of Lohri festival  in the premises of Radha Krishen Mandir by the residents of Roop Nagar Enclave Lane 1/A. Kasturi Lal Gupta, President, Jammu Welfare Organisation was the chief guest.
Trikuta Nagar Welfare Society, Trikuta Nagar celebrated Lohri at Sector 6 Main Chowk, Mini Market.
B.D. Gupta, Chairman of the society welcomed all the residents of Trikuta Nagar along with their families.
Lohri festival was celebrated in Udhampur, Ramnagar, Chenani Kishtwar and Bhaderwah also with great pomp and show by people from all walks of life.
