Lok Sabha adjourned amid slogan shouting

NEW DELHI : Amid sloganeering, the Lok Sabha was adjourned for 15 minutes today, with the Opposition Members protesting against the government’s reported move of extending the session for three days without taking the House in confidence.   As soon as the House assembled for the day this morning, several Members, including Congress party leader Mallikarjun Kharge, AITC’s Prof Saugata Roy, Jai Prakash Narain Yadav(RJD) and P Karunakaran (CPM) were on their feet demanding immediate discussion on their adjournment notices.   Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, however, refused saying they would be allowed to speak after Question Hour.   However, Mr Kharge continued to press for his demand alleging that the government has taken a decision without taking the House in confidence.  The Speaker too remained unrelenting and proceeded with Question Hour amid din.   This provoked the Opposition to storm into the well and raise slogans. This continued for about 15 minutes and culminated with adjournment of the House at 1115 hrs.   Meanwhile, some Members from the treasury benches, including Kirit Somaiya(BJP) raised slogans against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi seeking an apology from him for a statement allegedly made in Amethi.
