JAMMU, June 28: Minister for Higher Education, Mohammad Akbar Lone today said that the Government is endeavoring to further streamline education scenario by providing requisite infrastructure in all educational institutions especially in far off parts of the state.
The Minster stated this while inspecting development works in Government College for Engineering and Technology, Chak Bhalwal.
Director Colleges, Nalini Kohli, Principal, Sameru Sharma, General Manager, JKPCC, D.D. Gorka besides faculty members were also present on the occasion.
The Minister took stock of ongoing works of the administration block and library being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 6.63 lakh by JKPCC and is expected to be completed by March, 2014.
The Minister asked the executing agency to gear up men and machinery for timely completion of the project. He said that education is priority sector for the Government and a number of schemes and policies are being implemented in this regard. He asked the faculty members to put in their sincere efforts and work with utmost zeal and commitment to provide quality education to the students.
The Principal and faculty members raised several issues which included uninterrupted power supply, completion of Over Head Tank (OHT), dispensary in the college for immediate first aid, canteen, road connectivity, transport facility for students on nominal rates, parking shed and boundary wall.
The Minister assured that the issues raised would be taken up with the concerned corners for early redressal of the same.
The Minister also took round of the workshop block, seminar/conference block, carpentry room, drawing hall, foundry block, smithing/welding block, examination hall and machine shop and inquired about the facilities being provided there. He called upon the College management to replace the defunct machinery so that students can carry out their practical sessions conveniently.
Later, the Minister convened a meeting with Principals of Government Degree Colleges of Jammu Division to review the functioning and progress of development works being done in the colleges.
The issues discussed in the meeting included land acquisition cases of various colleges, result for last two years, status of construction of new Degree Colleges set up under PMRP/MHRD/UGC funding, status of on-going works, details of local funds/Pool fund, introduction of new subjects, affiliation of colleges, salary requirements for plan borne posts, etc.
Meanwhile, Mr Lone asked the functionaries of all vital departments to adopt pro-active approach in extending adequate services throughout the Amarnath Yatra.
The Minister while chairing a high level meeting of senior officers of various departments convened to review their preparedness for Shri Amarnathji Yatra, asked the Chief Engineer PDD and PHE to ensure uninterrupted power and water supply during the Yatra.
He asked the Irrigation and Flood Control authorities to take preventive measures well in advance by constructing crates and other alternate measures to meet any eventuality.
Lone also took stock of law and order situation in Jammu Division and arrangements made by the civil administration for comfortable stay of Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims.
Divisional Commissioner apprised the Minister that the civil administration has made all arrangements for smooth conduct of the yatra and law and order situation is normal in Jammu district. He told the chair that necessary instructions have been issued to all the DDCs to identify safe locations to deal with any natural or manmade disaster.
The Minister directed the CA&PD authorities to constitute special squads to check the price and quality of essential commodities so that the devotees visiting Jammu city do not face any inconvenience.
