JAMMU, Sep 19: The 10-day-long Ganesh Mahotsav culminated today with immersion of idols of Lord Ganesha in different water bodies in Jammu.
The festival which is usually celebrated with pomp and festivities, has been a quiet affair for two years now due to Corona Pandemic. Ganesh idols were immersed in various parts of Jammu without public processions owing to Covid-19 restrictions.
However, a ‘Jhanki’ of Lord Ganesh was taken out in Old City Jammu with limited number of participants. Prominent among those participated in the ‘Jhanki’ was senior BJP leader Yudhvir Sethi. Amid chants of “Ganpati bappa morya”, the ‘Jhanki’ was taken out from various parts of Old City.
Ganeshotsav which in normal times used to witness large gatherings and long queues on streets outside public mandals which host the celebrations, began on September 10 and today on last day of the festival, devotees and various public mandals bid adieu to Lord Ganesha by immersing his idols in various water bodies.
Devotees were seen immersing Ganesha idols in Tawi River and Ranbir Canal in Jammu while praying Lord Ganesha to come again to their homes next year and bring cheer and happiness in their lives.
In Akhnoor, Ganpati idols were brought to the Chander Bhaga River amidst dancing and merriment and immersed in the River water. Local residents of Pacca Danga (Jammu) also bid a teary farewell to Lord Ganesh as he begins his journey to his heavenly abode on Ananta Chaturdashi.
