JAMMU, June 26: J&K Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders today showed their grave resentment against the UT administration for not addressing pressing problems of the people which has led to their disappointment during a meeting with visiting Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh.
The Defence Minister, who visited BJP Office to discuss the prevailing political situation with party leaders this afternoon, held a wide range of discussion on various issues with them. The UT leaders expressed their serious concern over the attitude of the administration in settling the pressing problems of the people of the UT which they alleged has created a gulf between people and the Government, party sources said.
The Defence Minister during his one day tour to Jammu met the leaders of J&K to acquaint himself with public feedback in the UT on various schemes and development works launched by the Narendra Modi Government in the UT especially after the abrogation of controversial Articles 370 and 35 A in August 2019 besides the party’s ‘Public Samprak Se Samarthan Programme’ organized to celebrate the nine year’s of Narendra Modi Government at Centre.
The BJP leaders informed the Union Minister that the people of the UT are happy with the working of the Modi Government and the development works which took place in the UT during last nine years. They said that people themselves admit that the J&K has not witnessed such a rapid development in last 70 years of Congress and National Conference rule.
The party leaders informed Union Minister that the people are happy with the public welfare schemes launched by Modi Government and the rapid development which is taking place in the UT like construction of flyovers, widening of highways, construction of projects, establishing of Medical Colleges and other premier institutions. This is completely going to transform the UT and people fully acknowledge good work done by the Union Government, the added.
The party leaders as per insiders in the meeting informed Rajnath Singh that BJP will get good results in case Assembly elections are held in the UT as party is on a strong wicket in view of the performance of the Union Government that paid special attention for the development of UT especially remote and backward areas which were hitherto neglected by previous Governments.
Sources said, while expressing their dismay over the role of administration, the BJP leaders informed the Defence Minister that a wrong feedback is being given to Centre that if the elections will be held at this stage the BJP will be in loss which is not correct. The party has consolidated its position in the UT and people fully are satisfied with the party’s developmental agenda.
They however alleged that officers don’t listen to the problems and grievances of the people and take positive steps in settling them which is the cause of public resentment and disappointment. The alarming power cuts, water scarcity in various areas and lack of irrigation facilities to the farmers especially in the tale end areas of the canals has been a cause of concern of the masses for which BJP leadership voiced their concern before the Minister.
Sources said that while questioning the functioning of the administration, the BJP leaders told Singh that JKPS and JKAS cadre officers have been sidelined and despite taking up this issue with the higher ups no action was taken to stop this trend.
The sources said that they informed the Minister that the party activists are in favour of elections in the UT but opinion of the official machinery is in contravention to that.
Sources said party leaders even demanded that the Defence installations should be kept away from residential areas as people living near defence installations especially in Jammu city are facing problems in seeking permissions for reconstruction etc.
