Lover strangulates woman to death

SRINAGAR, June 13: An estranged lover has murdered his girlfriend after she refused to marry him in Central Kashmir district of Budgam last week, police said here.
A police spokesman said a woman, Gulshana, had left her home in Kremshore, Khan Sahab in Budgam district on June 3 last week, however, she didn’t return home. Her family searched for her and found her body in a field.
“The body bore strangulation marks around her neck. Subsequently, autopsy of the body was conducted at Sub District Hospital,” the spokesman said.
A case FIR Number 45/2014 under Section 302 RPC was registered in Police Station Khan Sahib and investigation was started.
During the investigation, it transpired that the deceased was engaged to a man from Gogo by her parents, but she had an affair with Javid Ahmad Bhat, a painter, who wanted to marry her, the spokesman said.
The woman had received a phone call from Bhat in the evening to meet him at Reshinad. Bhat had asked the victim to refuse marrying to the man she was engaged and go against her parents’ will, the spokesman said.
Angered by the woman’s denial, Bhat, in order to revenge, strangulated her to death with her scarf and left the body there, the spokesman said.
