SRINAGAR, June 11: Kashmir reported 662 fresh COVID-19 cases, lowest after over two months, while eight people succumbed to the virus taking the Jammu and Kashmir death toll to 4160.
Those who tested positive include 156 cases from Srinagar, Baramulla 86, Budgam 92, Pulwama 63, Kupwara 74, Anantnag 54, Bandipora 44, Ganderbal 31, Kulgam 53 and Shopian 9.
As per officials figures, 67,915 positive cases including 809 deaths and 64,615 recoveries are from Srinagar, 22,584 including 272 deaths and 20,435 recoveries are from Baramulla, 21,675 including 20,232 recoveries and 199 deaths are from Budgam, 14,294 including 12,797 recoveries and 180 deaths are from Pulwama, 13,130 including 151 deaths and 12,026 recoveries are from Kupwara, 15,412 including 14,298 recoveries and 191 deaths are from Anantnag, 8,917 cases including 8,437 and 98 deaths are from Bandipora, 9,234 including 8,629 recoveries and 71 deaths are from Ganderbal, 10,630 including 9,498 recoveries and 109 deaths are from Kulgam and 5,483 including 5,056 recoveries and 58 deaths are from Shopian.
The number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 189,274 including 176,023 recoveries and 2,138 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 17,585 including 11,113 from Kashmir division.
With 1,885 more recoveries including 1173 from Kashmir, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 284,027, which is 92.88 percent of the total cases.
In the meantime, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad today urged people of Srinagar to exhibit strict compliance to the Government directions for larger public safety, health and follow COVID-19 related advisories and guidelines in letter and spirit.
The DC during a media brief appealed traders and transporters to cooperate with district administration and strictly follow Covid-19 SOPs and precautions to control the COVID-19 infection.
He also urged people to visit nearest vaccination centers and get vaccinated at an earliest to defeat the 2nd wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
Asad said that the administration along with other frontline warriors is working round the clock to curb the spread of infection. He said COVID-19 pandemic is not yet over and we are at the stage where adopting Covid-19 Appropriate Behaviour is paramount to avoid contracting viruses.
The DC said that anybody found without a mask in public places shall have to undergo mandatory COVID testing apart from depositing fine as prescribed under rules.
First case of black fungus detected in SKIMS
Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura today detected the first case of Mucormycosis or black fungus in a COVID recovered patient.
A Mucormycosis case has been found in a patient from Udhampur who had recovered from COVID-19. The patient admitted in Ward 3 of the hospital is suffering from diabetes. “Yes, a Black Fungus has been detected in the patient. He is under observation,” Medical Superintendent, Farooq Jan, told Excelsior. He, however, restrained from divulging further details.
Assistant Professor Microbiology SKIMS, Gulnaz Bashir, told Excelsior that microscopic examination clearly revealed Black Fungus. “Last evening we detected the Black Fungus under a microscope. Further investigations are underway,” she said.
