JAMMU, Dec 18: Today recorded lowest day temperature in the last 32 years on this day while fog hit rail and air service throwing normal life out of gear.
Weather observatory at Chatha campus of SKUAST-Jammu today registered 9.2 degree Celsius maximum temperature, which is lowest ever on December 18 as per the available records for the last 32 years, informed Prof B C Sharma, Head of the Agrometrology in the Agriculture University.
This is 11.6 degree Celsius below the normal day temperature on this day, he added.
As per the IMD, Jammu today recorded 10.2 degree Celsius day temperature and 4.5 degree Celsius minimum temperature, which was lowest of the season.
Thick fog engulfed the entire region, particularly during the morning and evening hours while people preferred to stay indoors.
The Rail and Air services remained affected due to the fog as the trains departed
and arrived few hours later from their scheduled times.
All five scheduled flights, including three of Indigo and two of Go Airways, were cancelled due to harsh weather conditions and poor visibility. The programme of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and some other leaders of different parties, who were scheduled to address public meetings across Jammu on last day of campaigning, was also cancelled due to poor visibility in view of fog.
In Srinagar, the maximum temperature today was 11.4 degree Celsius and the minimum was minus 4.2 degree Celsius whereas in Leh, the maximum temperature was 5.8 degree Celsius and the minimum was minus 14.6 degree Celsius.
