The project of home delivery of LPG could not mature by the end of May last as was expected in view of the Statement of the State Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution. It is reported that topographical obstructions are in the way of home delivery. We do understand what the topography of the State is and it is nothing new either to the consumers or to the suppliers of gas. This cannot become the real pretext of not providing home delivery in rural areas. Deferring or delaying home delivery of the essential commodity like LPG cannot change topographical and physical realities. It is the public distribution system, which has to be re-adjusted and made effective and conducive to the supply of this essential consumer item. We are aware that the Department of Consumer Affairs and Distribution is seized of topographical factor in home delivery of LPG. But we expect it to come out with a solution to the problem that would relieve a large chunk of population from going through many hassles in obtaining gas regularly. Supply situation of LPG has considerably improved in the cities of Jammu and Srinagar in comparison to what was obtaining in last year. We are confident that difficulties encountered in public distribution for one reason or the other will be overcome by sustained efforts of the Department.
