LS adjourned twice before lunch after uproar

NEW DELHI :  Lok Sabha was adjourned twice in the pre-lunch sitting today after the opposition created din over missing coal block allocation files and the recent fuel price hike.
As soon as the House met for the day, BJP members raised slogans demanding reply from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Singh on the missing files.
Members from the Left parties rushed to the Well along with TDP leader Namo Nageshwar Rao.
While Left members raised the issue of fuel price hike, Rao wanted to raise the issue of privilege notice given by him against Congress members Sandeep Dikshit and Madhu Yakshi Goud for allegedly threatening TDP members.
Trinamool Congress and DMK members also raised certain issues which could not be heard.
Amid din, Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj said since the Prime Minister was leaving for the G-20 summit tomorrow, the opposition wanted that the issue be discussed today itself and an intervention by Singh.
“Today is the only day left for the Prime Minister to speak. The Parliamentary Affairs had assured us that the Coal Minister will reply and PM will intervene. The promise should be fulfilled today,” she said.
She said as the Monsoon Session concludes on September 6, the opposition would not be able to hear the PM on the issue. Swaraj demanded that the adjournment motion on the coal scam moved by BJP member Hansraj Ahir be taken up immediately.
She said Coal Minister Sri Prakash Jaiswal’s reply and PM’s intervention during the debate was a must as the Supreme Court had recently slammed the government on the issue.
“While it wanted to know whether any FIR has been lodged in missing files case, it also wondered if the missing files were part of a cover up,” she said.
Speaker Meira Kumar informed the House that Rao’s privilege notice was under consideration.
She also said Congress member Poonam Prabhakar’s privilege notice against some TDP members for using unparliamentary language was also under consideration.
Amid din, the House was adjourned till 12 noon.
When the House reassembled, uproarious scenes were witnessed with slogan-shouting Trinamool and Left members trooping into the Well protesting against the fuel price hike.
BJP members were on their feet shouting “PM jawab do” on the coal issue.
The House was then adjourned for 30 minutes by M Thambidurai, who was in the Chair. (AGENCIES)
