Men in uniform brave hot and humid day for duty

JAMMU, June 4: As the mercury in Jammu continues to remain above 40 these days, a group of cops stand under the sun at the main entrance of Government Polytechnic College of Jammu near Bikram Chowk holding big guns and maintaining their hawk eye vigil over the movement of vehicles and pedestrians on the adjoining busy road so that no disruptive element may disrupt the conclusion of marathon elections for the Lower House of Parliament of world’s largest democracy, counting for one of the 543 seats of which was going on in the premises of the technical institute.
Similar was the security scenario at another road adjoining another institute of higher education-Government MAM College, in the close vicinity where also the counting of votes for the recently concluded Lok Sabha (LS) elections was being held and there was not much traffic movement on these roads as traffic cops were stationed at many places on these roads leading to the counting venues to maintain the smooth flow of vehicular movement.
Otherwise the Government Polytechnic College of Jammu, which remained busy with noises of the students, was today abuzz with journalists capturing videos for their news organisations and some doing live broadcast of that while the personnel from security and J&K Police including lady cops were also in good number at the venue everywhere along with the employees of different government departments who were deputed for the counting of votes and other related and supportive tasks.
“All the victory to BJP candidates is due to the strong and bold leadership of PM Modi as Jugal (BJP candidate whose fate was being decided at the counting centre) has done nothing during his tenure and similar is the case of other BJP candidates too,” said a Congress Agent at the Counting Station when asked for comments on their candidate Raman Bhalla trailing behind with a heavy margin.
“Till the leadership of PM Modi remains there, BJP will continue the winning spree,” claimed a BJP Agent.
Under all this political lauding a policeman of the Sub Inspector rank informed that they were on the duty from 4.30 am and may remain at the counting venue till evening.
On assurance of not being named another cop said that he along with some of his colleagues visited the tents where lunch was being served but they were asked for coupons.
However, a hall was there at the Polytechnic College where a screen was fixed for the journalists to record the scores of all the candidates who fought for the five Lok Sabha seats in J&K and there was a LCD also where news bulletins regarding poll results from across the country were being shown.
In the same hall were election agents of political parties who were complaining poor ventilation in the hall as it was very humid there.
“I remained inside the counting room to witness the entire process of counting of votes for our candidate Raman Bhalla and to see that no wrongdoing takes place but it all went properly and in a nice way,” Sanjeev Pandey-Congress Assembly In-charge for Jammu West Constituency informed.
