JAMMU, Jan 3: Four Army soldiers including a Lieutenant were injured in a mine blast along the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district while Pakistan army again violated ceasefire by resorting to shelling and firing in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district.
Reports said a mine exploded close to the LoC in forward village of Kallal in Nowshera sector this afternoon when an Army team was conducting routine patrolling in the area. All four Army personnel who were part of the patrolling party were injured in the mine blast.
Troops rushed to the spot from adjacent posts and shifted the injured to the local hospital where they were given first-aid and then referred to the Command Hospital in Udhampur. However, their condition was stated to be stable.
Injured Army soldiers have been identified as Lieutenant Sahil Kumar, Havaldar P Patil, Havaldar Suresh Kumar and Sepoy Kiran.
Sources ruled out use of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the blast by the suspected militants saying the explosion was triggered by a mine which have been planted by the troops in forward areas to check infiltrators.
However, few days back, Army personnel had detected and defused a powerful IED in Keri sector of Rajouri district which had been planted by the militants after infiltrating into the Indian territory. The IED was defused safely. Timely detection of the IED had averted major tragedy as it had been planted by the militants to target the troops deployed in the forward area.
Few days back, three militants had infiltrated into the Indian territory in Nowshera sector and engaged troops in the gunbattle in which two Army soldiers were martyred. The same day, Army had killed three militants on the Line of Control.
In view of repeated infiltration attempts by the militants and ceasefire violations by Pakistan army in Nowshera and Sunderbani sectors of Rajouri district, the Indian Army has been maintaining very high alert on the LoC. Number of infiltration attempts by the militants aided and abetted by the Pakistani troops have been foiled by the Indian Army on the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts.
Meanwhile, Pakistan army today again violated ceasefire on the Line of Control in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district by resorting to mortar shelling and firing targeting forward Defence posts and civilian locations.
The Indian Army retaliated effectively, leading to heavy exchanges which continued for about one and half hours.
However, there were no casualties on the Indian side in Pakistan shelling and firing. Casualties, if any, on Pakistan side couldn’t be ascertained immediately.
Shelling in civilian areas led to panic among the people living in forward areas of the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector and most of the border dwellers took shelter in houses and bunkers even during the day.
Repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistan army on the LoC has caused panic among the border dwellers who have been living under fear and panic because of sudden shelling and firing by the Pakistan army.
