JAMMU, Nov 29: Lt Gen Ashok Ambre today took over as the new chief of Army’s 9 Corps (Rising Star Corps).
He took over the position from Lt Gen Rajeev Tewari, who has been posted as GOC (General Officer Commanding) in West Bengal, a Defence spokesperson said here.
“Lt Gen Ashok Ambre with an excellent service profile and rich experience in counter-terrorist operations assumes command of the Rising Star Corps,” the spokesperson said.
He said Lt Gen Tewari, during his command of the formation, oversaw the effective handling of counter- terrorists operations, resulting in the elimination of all infiltrating terrorists and the successful conduct of rescue missions in the Corps zone.
The 9 corps falls under the Western Command of the Army and is responsible for providing second tier of security along the International Border in the three districts of Jammu, Samba and Kathua.
