Lt Gen Hooda visits LoC

SRINAGAR, June 9: Northern Command, Army Commander Lt General D S Hooda was given a detailed brief about situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and internal security environment prevailing in hinterland.
Defence sources said that Lt General Hooda, during his maiden visit after taking over as Northern Command, was informed about the measures taken to foil any infiltration bid from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), “where a large number of militants are waiting in launch pads to sneak into this side during the next few months”.
Sources said the Army Commander was informed that anti infiltration grid was functioning even during winter despite all harsh weather conditions and other odds.    He was informed about the recent successful anti militant operations conducted jointly with other security agencies in the Kashmir valley which has resulted in elimination of top militant commanders of different organisations.    The Army commander was also informed about the successful operation in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, where two militants, including top commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed.
A Defence Ministry spokesman Lt Colonel N N Joshi, meanwhile, said after taking over as Army Commander of the coveted Northern Command, Lt Gen Hooda arrived here today on his maiden visit to Chinar Corps for familiarisation and deliberations on prevailing security situation in the Valley.
The Army Commander called on Governor N N Vohra and discussed the security scenario with special reference to the conduct of Shri Amarnath Yatra.
Lt General Hooda also met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at his residence and discussed the security related issues.
The Army Commander left for Headquarters Northern Command in the afternoon.
