SRINAGAR:
Lt Gen S K Dua today took over the reins of Srinagar-based Chinar Corps from Lt Gen Subrata Saha, who is taking over as the next Director General Military Operations.
“Lt Gen Saha handed over the charge of General officer Commanding of 15 Corps to Lt Gen Dua at BadamiBagh Cantonment here,” a defence spokesman said.
He said Lt Gen Saha will proceed to Army Headquarters in New Delhi to assume the challenging responsibility of the DGMO.
Lt Gen Dua, who was commissioned into the Regiment of Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry in December 1979, has been associated with the soldiers and people of Jammu and Kashmir ever since he began his journey in the Army, the spokesman said.
A Graduate of Defence services Staff College, Higher Command Course and National Defence College, Lt Gen Dua has held varied prestigious command, staff and instructional appointments that include command of his unit 8 JAK LI (Siachen) and Brigade in J&K and command of a new Counter Terrorism Force, IGAR (East) which he raised in the North East, he said.
He has been a Commando Instructor and has also represented the country as the Defence attache in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, the spokesman added.
On assuming the command, Lt Gen conveyed his greeting to the people of Kashmir and the entire Chinar Corps fraternity.
Lt Gen Saha was given a befitting farewell by the Chinar Corps.
“He channelised all energies towards the betterment of Kashmiri Awaam through a two pronged approach of addressing the idea of militancy by introducing the concept of 4Es i.E Education, Empowerment, Engagement and Employment and neutralising the menace of terrorism through a robust counter infiltration grid on the Line of Control and relentless operations against the terrorists in hinterland,” the spokesman said.
During his tenure, Army’s contribution in the aftermath of 2014 floods will always remain etched in the conscience of the people of Kashmir, he added. (AGENCIES)
