JAMMU, Aug 20: Lieutenant General Gurdeep Singh has taken over as the Chief of Staff, Western Command. He has relieved Lieutenant Ge-neral Venugo-pal Menon.
Lieutenant General Gurdeep Singh was commissioned into the KUMAON Regi-ment in June 1977. An alumnus of National Defence Academy and Indian Military Academy, the General Officer has a distinguished career spanning more than 38 years during which he tenanted various command, staff and instructional appointments in Western, Eastern and Northen Commands.
The General officer successfully commanded an Infantry Battalion in J&K including Siachen Glacier. He commanded an Infantry Brigade and Infantry Division with varied operational roles in J&K.
The General Officer has attended prestigious professional courses including Defence Services Staff College and Senior Command Course. Lieutenant General Gurdeep Singh served as a Directing Staff in Indian Military Academy Deh-radun and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. The General Officer was Commandant, Infantry School, Mhow prior to taking over as the Chief of Staff, Western Command.
