Jammu, Dec 1: Lucky Gupta, the Jammu based actor achieved a personal feat as well as a landmark for local theatre scene, with his performance of 200th show of well-known play ‘Man Mujhe Tagore Bana De’ at Xavier Convent School Barnai, here today.
The maverick actor has already held shows of the same play in different schools of districts like Jammu, Kathua, Reasi, Udhampur, Ramban, Srinagar, Budgam and Anantnag, and also in Himachal Pradesh and other parts of the country.
Inculcating the value and importance of education in one’s life, especially children, the play ‘Maa Mujhe Tagore Bana Do’, is based on a Punjabi story written by Mohan Bhandari. It is a saga of dedication, determination and resolve of a son of poor brick kiln labourer, who despite abject poverty and set backs in childhood, hopes to be like Tagore in life and write poetry like him.
The best part of the production is that being a single-actor performance designed and directed by Lucky Gupta, it is almost minimal in theatre props. Like today, the play is held in open where children sit in a semi-circle. The performances wherein he speaks the lines of the play moving among the children leave a great impact upon the audience. His speech, movements and mannerism and minimum props leave the audience with an intimate experience of the theatre.
Lucky Gupta under a unique personal initiative to popularize theatre amongst the children started series of solo shows of the play two years back and has been performed with out any support from Government and society.
Vikram Sharma, eminent theatre director, present as chief guest on the occasion lauded the unflinching hard work put in by Lucky Gupta to make the process a nationwide event.
