SRINAGAR, Nov 10: The macadamization of the dilapidated Neelipora-Babagund road in north Kashmir’s Handwara area has begun, offering much-needed relief to residents.
Locals from the nearby villages of Neelipora, Babagund, Devispora, Sodal, and Shahilal Handwara express that the poor condition of the road has long caused significant hardship for transporters and daily commuters, particularly fruit growers. “For years, we struggled to navigate this road. It was an ordeal, especially for those of us who depend on transporting fruit,” said Bashir Ahmad, a local fruit grower.
The long-awaited repair work follows a strong public outcry over the road’s deteriorated state. In response, the administration took swift action to address the issue, much to the relief of the local community. “We are grateful that our voices were finally heard. This repair will make a big difference in our daily lives and improve the transportation of goods,” another resident said.
The fruit growers have also expressed their gratitude to the authorities for initiating the repairs. “Repairing this vital road is a major relief, especially for us,” a fruit grower said.
Residents have extended their thanks to the Government for the work, “We appreciate the effort taken by everyone involved to make this long-standing demand a reality,” the residents said.
