Madan, Ashwani appeal for safe water, sanitation

BISHNAH, Jan11: Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma and MLA Bishnah Ashwani Kumar appealed the Village Water and Sanitation Committees and general public to ensure that water is preserved and kept safe.
They were speaking in a workshop organized by National Development Foundation, NDF with support from Communication and Capacity Development Unit, Water and Sanitation Support Organization in which more than 350 people drawn from various villages, Water and Sanitation Committees were sensitized on how to plan, manage and monitor public water supply scheme.
Kuldeep Verma, Vice Chairman OBC Board Jammu was also present on the occasion.
IAS Dr Piyush Singhla, Ashok Choudhary, XEN Ground Water, Er Vinod Gupta, AEE Rural Jammu, Surjeet Singh AEE, PHE Bishnah and Rakesh Dubey BDO acted as resource persons.
Participants were trained on how Village Water Sanitation Committees can plan monitor and manage public water supply schemes, operation and maintenance of hand pumps and public water supply schemes, Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan and its linkage with National Rural Drinking Water Programme, formulation of village Water Security Plan and how Village Level Water and Sanitation committees can protect existing schemes and plan for future. Participants were also sensitized on the impact of sanitation on health and link between health and sanitation.
Rajiv Khajuria, Chief Functionary NDF, gave a detailed account of support activities and water quality surveillance programme under National Rural Drinking Water Programme. MLA Ashwani Kumar said that Village Water and Sanitation Committees should be activated properly with support from NGOs and Department so that the adequate and safe water is ensured.
MP Madan Lal Sharma asked Village, Water and Sanitation Committees to actively participate in the planning of village water supply scheme so that the actual masses can be benefited.
A school competition on Water and Sanitation was also organized in Girls Higher Secondary School Bishnah in which students from different schools participated. Prizes were distributed among these children by MP and MLA Bishnah.
