Madan calls on Army Chief

New Delhi, Sept 7 :  Madan Lal Sharma, Member Parliament, today called on Chief of Army Staff, General Bikram Singh and sought recruitment of State’s youth atleast one from each family of border area.
Madan Lal apprised him of various issues related to welfare and development of border inhabitants and urged for demining of agricultural fields besides enhancing compensation for the lands with Army since 1971. He informed the General that most of the people have not received compensation of land for the last 18 years and requested for its early release.
The MP also demanded facilities for ex- servicemen in Jammu and Kashmir at par with other States of India. He said that people in army and para military forces serve the nation living far from their families so their services should be recognised by extending them all post retirement facilities.
He urged the State Government particularly Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take a lead and remove VAT from CSD canteens for former and serving soldiers and their families. He also sought enhancement of quota in Govt jobs for the ex-servicemen below the age of 45. He appealed the Chief Minister to personally look into the affairs of the ex-servicemen and their families and provide them immediate relief which they deserve as the matter of their right and meritorious services.
