Madan Lal takes up refugees’ issue with PM

NEW DELHI, Aug 25: Member Parliament (MP) from Jammu-Poonch constituency, Madan Lal Sharma met the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and discussed the issue of refugees  and constant ceasefire violation  and heavy firing by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LOC) in Rajouri and Poonch districts in J&K State.
Accompanied by vice chairman of OBC’s Welfare Board Kuldip Raj Verma, the Congress MP apprised Dr Manmohan Singh of  the situation on borders in view of ceasefire violation besides long pending demands of the refugees in Jammu region.
Mr Sharma also apprised the Prime Minister about the fear  and panic developed among the people residing on  IB  and the LoC in Samba, Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch. He said that the people residing near the Line of Control and their houses and cattle are under tremendous threat. The MP demanded that all the necessary steps be taken for the safety, security and livelihood of all the people living along the borders.
The MP also demanded enhancement of compensation to the victims of the border firing  and shelling at par with the victims of militancy in J&K as at present border victims are entitled for Rs 1 lakh and militancy victim Rs 5 lakh. He strongly voiced for bringing an end to this discrimination. He also demanded recruitment from border areas on priority basis with relaxation and increase the rent of the land under army use. The MP also suggested to bring border fencing up to zero line.
Both the Congress leaders raised the issue of refugees and demanded early settlement of  the demands of 1947, 65 and 71 besides West Pakistan refugees. They also sought liberal funding for the OBCs in J&K on the pattern of STs and SCs and construction of hostels for OBC children in all the districts  of the State. The PM listened to their issues and assured all possible support.
