AHILYANAGAR, Nov 30: Except for Akole and Shrirampur in the district Ahilyanagar (Ahmednagar), the defeated candidates in 10 assembly constituencies of the district have filed applications with the district Election officer and the district collector demanding for verification of electronic voting machines (EVMs).
As per their demand, the EVMs and VVPATs in 74 polling stations in the district will be verified.
The Election Commission has charged a fee of Rs 47,200 for the verification of one voting machine. Accordingly, 10 candidates have deposited a total of Rs 34,92,800 with the district Election officer (District Treasury).
As the deadline for applying for verification of voting machines was on Friday, Congress candidate from Shirdi constituency Prabhawati Ghogre, NCP (SP faction) candidate from Shevgaon constituency Pratap Dhakne and independent candidate Rahul Jagtap from Shrigonda constituency have filed applications for verification of machines in six polling stations (two each).
Earlier, Balasaheb Thorat (Congress) has filed 14 nominations in Sangamner, Shankarrao Gadakh (Shiv Sena-UBT group) has filed 10 nominations in Nevasa constituency, Rani Lanka (NCP-SP group) has filed 18 nominations in Parner, BJP’s Ram Shinde has filed 17 nominations in Karjat-Jamkhed constituency, Abhishek Kalamkar (NCP SP group) has filed three nominations in Ahmednagar City constituency, Prajakt Tanpure (NCP-SP group) has filed five nominations in Rahuri constituency and NCP (SP group) candidate Sandeep Varpe from Kopargaon constituency has filed an application with the district collector for verification of the machines in a polling station at Pohegaon, an official release said here on Saturday.
