KUPWARA, Sept 26: To celebrate the Ganga Ashtami with religious fervour and gaiety, a Maha Yagya was organized at old Hindu Shrine in North Kashmir ‘Sandhu Ganga Asthapan’ at Kandi Khass in Handwara, here.
After the beginning of first ‘suhakar’ on the first day, the Yagya culminated with the fifth ‘suhakar’ on the second day on Ganga Ashtami, which was followed by a ‘puran ahuti’ and a ‘maha bhog’.
The devotees from all parts of the State including migrant camps in Kashmir and Jammu attended the Yagya to receive blessings and feel blissful.
Bhajans and kirtans were held during the whole night which smacked ecstatic feeling among the devotees.
‘Chhabeels’, fruit chats and allied stalled were also arranged for the devotees on the occasion.
Some Army personnel also attended the Yagya.
Police, Army authorities and local administration made elaborate security and allied arrangements for smooth conduct of the Yagya.
The Yagya was organized by the office bearers of Sadhu Ganga Asthapan Trust and Pandit ‘biradari’ of Kandi Khass, Kupwara.
