KATHUA, June 21: In the first of its kind gesture in the State, MLA Basohli and former Minister Ch Lal Singh today distributed bicycles among the students of Government Degree College Mahanpur . These bicycles were purchased by the college out of funds provided by the Government.
While distributing bicycles, Ch. Lal Singh also gave two hi-tech buses to the Govt Model Degree College Mahanpur out of his Constituency Development Fund . During inaugurate ceremony of buses , the MLA himself drove one bus filled with cheering students inside the Campus .
Speaking on the occasion, Ch Lal Singh called upon students to follow healthy practice of cycling. He said that with these bicycles , the students will not only resort to physical exercise and thus remain free from diseases , but it will also result in reduction in overall pollution level since there will lesser use of vehicles. He also called upon the students to make use of various facilities available in the College . Emphasizing the role of girl students Ch. Lal Singh called upon them to put in hard work in their studies as well as other co-curricular activities so that they became important pillars of society and provide direction and leadership to all.
The MLA also inaugurated the newly constructed College Main Gate and College Canteen . He threw open Jagdish Chander Bose Botanical Garden and also formally inaugurated the Automation of College Library.
Earlier, Principal of the College, Dr Nutan Kumar Resutra, informed how the College has progressed leaps and bounds in a short span of just eight months . “Today , this College has state of the art Gymnasium with an addition of nine thousand plus books in the library, Govt. Degree College Mahanpur has also embarked upon library automation while Botanical Garden, spread in an area of thirty five Kanals, has more than two hundred species which are a feast for plant lovers,” he elaborated.
