Mahant constitutes JKMTCA

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Oct 26: S Surinder Singh Kala was nominated as convener of J&K Motor Transport Companies Association (JKMTCA) by Mahant Manjit Singh Ji of Shiromani Dera Nangali Sahib Poonch.
Besides him 18 members to the Committee were also nominated by him.
This was stated by S Nanak Singh former president of JKMTCA while talking to reporters here today.
He said the new team was nominated by Mahant Ji after the then body submitted its resignation to him and appealed him to constitute a new body.
He said the JKMTCA has a long history of serving the State and the society. After the partition of the country the then transporters associated with the Association came forward to aid and support the efforts of the Government to execute the supplies of arms and ammunition to the armed forces that were defending the country and also did their best to maintain the essential supplies, he added.
Mr Singh said during this process number of people associated with transport lost their lives. For many years after partition the State Government was not having its fleet for the transportation and even the JKSRTC was not there and it was only JKMTCA which extended its all out support to the Government and society.
He said the JKMTCA worked unitedly in highly organised manner for many decades and was not only responsible for the employment of the unemployed youth but also contributed to the economy of the State on a large scale. But during past few years certain vested interests created a situation where it became highly difficult for JKMTCA to remain united and function appropriately which resulted into the miseries of transporters, drivers and all other allied services which were running with the support of transport industry.
He complimented the Mahant Ji for his intervention in the affairs of JKMTCA to make it to stand on its legs.
Surinder Singh Kala new convener of the Committee made an appeal to all sections of society to cooperate with the Committee and resolved that all members will work for the restoration of past glory to JKMTCA.
The other members of the Committee included S Nanak Singh, S Amar Singh Wazir, S Kulwant Singh, Tez Ram Gupta, Ch. Kamal Singh, S Dalip Singh Kala, S Balbir Singh Bali, S Gajan Singh, S Sarabjeet Singh Bhola, S Kultar Singh, S Ravinder Singh Kala, S Harpal Singh, S Madan Singh, S Surjeet Singh, S Kulwant Singh, S Mohinder Singh, S Ravinder Singh and S Avtar Singh Khalsa.
