SRINAGAR, Apr 11:The residents of Maharajpora area of Sopore town in North Kashmir protested against the lack of basic amenities in their locality.
The protesters, both men and women, gathered in front of the Sopore Police Station and blocked the Sopore-Bandipora road for several hours. “We have been suffering from a shortage of drinking water, poor drainage facilities, and dilapidated roads in the area,” a protestor said.
The protesters expressed frustration with past leaders who they feel have overlooked their community’s needs. “The consecutive Governments have overlooked our area, and nobody seems to be taking our issues seriously,” another protester said. They added that they feel victimized and deceived by politicians who only visit during elections.
The protesters urged the LG administration and concerned authorities to take notice of their demands and provide them with basic facilities. “We urge the LG administration and the concerned authorities to take notice of their genuine demands and work towards providing them with basic facilities,” they said.
The protest ended after police intervention, and traffic was later restored on the Sopore-Bandipora road. However, the residents remain hopeful that their concerns will be addressed, “We hope that our concerns will be heard, and we can live in a community that has basic facilities,” a resident said.
