JAMMU, June 12: Activists of Mahila Congress under the leadership of Pradesh Mahila Congress president, Indu Pawar today held a massive protest demonstration against oppressive policies being adopted by the State as well as Central Government to suppress voice of the youth, women, farmers and other weaker sections of the society.
Today’s protest was organized to expose three-year failures of the BJP- led NDA Government at the Centre and to oppose suppressive policies of PDP-BJP Government in J&K, which has proved as a non- performing liability on the people of the State.
Addressing agitating Mahila Congress activists, Indu Pawar (Ex-MLA) expressed her anguish and alleged that Coalition Government in J&K is shamelessly adopting oppressive means to snub those who are agitating for just and genuine demands. She said that the ways being adopted by the coalition would be proved disastrous for democracy in a sensitive state like J&K.
Pointing towards brutal and unprovoked lathi charge on Multipurpose Female Health Workers at Kathua, Pawar said that it was really unfortunate and highly condemnable that instead of listening grievances of the agitating female workers, cops shamelessly used force and misbehaved with women only to keep their political bosses in good humour. It is very unfortunate that on the one hand BJP Government is claiming of successfully launched ‘Save Girl Child’ campaign in J&K but on the other hand female employees who have been recruited to make this campaign successfully are denied wages for months together. “What message this PDP-BJP Government wants to give to the people by using force on female workers?” he asked and regretted that every section of the society is bearing brunt of the oppressive policies of BJP Government be it at national level or at state level.
She pointed towards killing of five innocent farmers in Mandsaur area of Madhya Pradesh and said such incidents exposed anti-farmers approach of BJP Government.
At least five farmers were killed and several injured in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur district on last Tuesday when police fired on protesters demanding better prices in the drought-ravaged region that recorded a former committing suicide every five hours in 2016-17.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Vandana Makhnotra, Santosh Sharma, Reeta Kanojia and Rani.
