JAMMU, Mar 15: Activists of Mahila Congress staged a protest demonstration and dharna at Jammu today against rising petrol, diesel and LPG prices and demanded the resignation of Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who has failed to control prices of these commodities.
The protest demonstration was held under the leadership of Pradesh Mahila Congress president and ex-MLA, Indu Pawar. Shouting slogans against BJP led NDA Government for its failure to control prices of essential commodities, Mahila Congress activists regretted that prices of essential commodities were increasing with every passing day.
Taking jibe at BJP for its fake poll slogans, Mahila Congress activists shouted, “Abki Baar Petrol 100 Ke Paar” and “Modi Hai, Toh Mehngai Hai”.
Addressing the agitating activists, Pawar said that during last one year, prices of petroleum products have been going unabated but those at the helm of the affairs, appeared unconcerned over unending woes of the poor masses.
She reminded that BJP leaders, who used to protest over prices of petrol and diesel when in opposition, have kept mum now. “The prices of petrol have touched Rs 100 per litre in many parts of the country and the Modi regime is doing nothing to provide relief to the people,” she said.
The Petroleum Minister should step down if he cannot keep the prices of petrol and diesel in check, she said.
Pawar said the people of the country had chosen Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the promise of `Achay Din’, now he has broken the trust of the people. “Against the anti-people attitude of the Modi Government, the Congress is agitating across the country and raising the voice of the common man,” she said.
“By increasing the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders again, the Modi Government has made it clear that it was not concerned about the problems of the common people who are badly hit by inflation. Petrol and diesel prices are increasing continuously despite the low prices of crude oil in the international market.
Other who spokes on the occasion included Vandana Makhnotra vice president Mahila Congress, Suman Choudhary, Reeta Kanojia, Sushma Choudhary and others.
