Mahila Morcha protests against rape

JAMMU, Aug 20: Bharatiya Janata Mahila Morcha held a protest at Ward 47, Pacca Talab Bahu Fort near here today against the recent rape case of five-year-old girl by a neighbour in Delhi. The protest was led by Anuradha Charak – state general secretary, Bhartiya Janta Mahilla Morcha, Sushma Manhas; Vice President BJMM and Anju Dogra its State general secretary.
Anuradha Charak; state general secretary BJMM said that she was deeply disturbed to hear news of the shameful incident in which a five year-old child in Delhi was sexually abused and is now fighting for her life in hospital. She demanded safety and security of women in the society and better law enforcement.
She also condemned the shameful act by Delhi Police by saying that instead of registering FIR against the accused, the Police offered Rs. 2000 to the father of victim to keep quiet and should not highlight the issue in the media and also advised him ” to thank God that his daughter was alive ”.
Sushma Manhas said that mere increase in punishments will not stop such crimes and now is the time when Government of India should consider death penalty for rape of a minor.
The Protestors raising slogans against Delhi Police and administration for not providing safety to women demanded justice. Others who participated in protest were Aarti Khokher, Sushma Kumari, Meeta Shagotra, Satya Verma, Kamlesh, Santosh Kumari, Sushma Verma and Santosh Sharma.
