The recent controversy about beef consumption has led to widespread communal violence. Our top leaders of all political parties spread the venom and make irresponsible statements to ignite the mob and to get a pound of flesh for their party. They have to be provided full security cover and some of the top party leaders Z-Security. All at the cost of exchequer. Thus adding extra burden on State Governments. Their Finances are meager as well as limited manpower to meet such exigencies.
Our founding Father of constitution gave all the Power on earth to legislatures, members of parliament of Lok Sabha and Rajaya Sabha but he forgot about their responsibility and accountability to the country. The result is what you see today. Whether in Legislature Assemblies, both the Houses of Parliament. Paralysis everywhere in Administration and even on road traffic jams. Every where you see political interference. As a result Chaos and corruption is rampant. Disobedience has become the law of land. Gokhale wrote to Gandhi Ji on ‘Disobedience Movement’ that “The seeds of Disobedience which you are sowing now will reap its Fruits after Independence”. Why Central and State Governments are under hibernation? They have all the Powers at their command and can take all the required measures. They awaken only when there is catastrophe and come out with an imaginary solution which has no relevance at all. This complicates the issue further. Just to site few examples which are a) Prices of all the food grain items b) Meager Medical Facilities c) Pathetic condition of roads which are full of ditches d) erratic Power supply e)drinking water supply f) proper transport facilities g) education facility h) employment opportunities and so on.
These require meticulous planning. Both Central and State Governments have to sit together to resolve these issues well in time so that these do not raise ugly heads. They should be on the same page to resolve these issues so that common man does not suffer. The concerned ministries have to timely act to ensure needful is done with out any time lag. What is required is dedication and timely action? No blame game should be there since the common man’s interest and needs are involved. Check and balances are must.
It reminds me of late Shri Rafi Ahmad Kidwai, Food & Agriculture Minister and earlier communication Minister in Union Cabinet. He excelled in both the Portfolios. Ration Card for the common man and centralizing the dak in G.P.O. and then sending by air the dak bear his testimony. He removed the compulsory food rationing and opened the food sector to private grocery shops. He revolutionized both the portfolios which he held. So was the contribution of late Maulana Azad Minister of Education in Union Cabinet. He laid foundation for educating young minds in Education sector in all disciplines. He set up University Grant commission and laid the policy of Education in the country. Both of them were visionary but alas we have forgotten their contribution in Nation Building.
Further the contribution of late Dr.Sarvapali S. Radhahakrisnan – Well Known Educationalist, Teacher and Late Dr.A.P.J.Abdual Kalam played their pivotal role in their respective fields. But both were denied the second term as a President of India. All of them were visionary but alas the party in power did not recommend their name for second term. Is not this hypocrisy? Where is the interest of the country which Political Parties claim they have?
The present day sky rocketing food prices indicates that Central Government as well as Food & Agriculture Ministry are under hibernation. No blame game will work. What is required is action on the ground level to resolve this issue? This brings the question of competency of the person heading the organization.
Once these legislatures, members of Lok Sabha & Rajaya Sabha are elected they forget their duty to solve the problems of common man which they have promised in their ‘Election Manifesto’. This needs rethinking.
Further, the communal riots in Dadri and elsewhere are condemnable from the core of the heart of every Indian but the reasons for these must be unearthed to avoid such recurrence in future. Leaders of political parties must refrain in making explosive statements. They must think before making such statements and its repurcussion later on. Their approach should be to apply the healing balm to the deceased family. They should not add fuel to the fire.
Freedom of speech has to be within the augment /values of the Nation. It reminds me a couplet form late Dr. Sir Mohammed Iqbal a great Philosopher who says “Mahzab Nahi Sighata Apaas Mein Baar Rakhna, Hindi Hain Hum Hindustan Hamara Hai” which means that religion does not teach us to have animosity with each other, we are Hindi and Hindustan Hamara Hai.
