Maintain exalted standards: Lt Gen Parnaik to troops

UDHAMPUR, June 16: General Officer Commanding (GOC) in Chief, Northern Command Lieutenant General KT Parnaik today exhorted upon the troops to continue maintaining the exalted standards and strive for excellence through professionalism, dedication and devotion to duty.
He said this, while addressing the Army officers, officials and jawans during the celebrations of the 42nd Raising day of the Northern Command popularly known as Dhruva Command, which was raised after Indo-Pak war of 1971.
Parnaik extended his good wishes to all ranks and their families of Dhruva Command and complimented the rank and file for demonstrating extra ordinary endurance, stead fastness, self sacrifice and an exemplary sense of duty during counter terrorist operations with a people friendly approach.
Parnaik flanked by other Army officers also inaugurated IT enabled smart class rooms in the Army Public School, Udhampur.
On the occasion, skydiving display by paratroopers, a breathtaking performance by the Army Motorcycle team aptly called the ‘Tornadoes’, a horse show, melodious rendition by the Army band and cultural programme were also organised.
The troops of “Dhruva” Command rededicated themselves in the service of the Nation and re-affirmed their resolve to work for peace, prosperity and development in J&K.
Earlier, to pay homage to the martyrs, Parnaik and other Army officers laid wreath at the ‘Dhruva’ War Memorial.
Northern Command has the unique responsibility of guarding the nation’s borders with both Pakistan and China, in addition to effectively countering the proxy war unleashed by Pakistan since 1990’s.
The “Dhruva” Command has lived up to the faith reposed in it by the Nation, be it combating Pakistan sponsored terrorism or the Kargil intrusion in 1999. Deployed in extremely inhospitable and hazardous environs which includes Siachen, troops of the “Dhruva” Command continue to serve with utmost zeal and enthusiasm, drawing inspiration from the saga of bravery and sacrifice of their predecessors.
