JAMMU, Jan 20: The Director General of Police (DGP), Jammu and Kashmir, RR Swain, today chaired a high-level meeting at Police Headquarters here to review the preparedness for the Republic Day 2024 celebrations in Jammu Zone.
Besides General Officer Commanding (GOC) 16 Corps, Lt General Navin Sachdeva, the meeting was attended by other senior officers of Army, Police, CAPFs, and other sister agencies.
During the meeting, the DGP directed the security forces’ officers to maintain close coordination with each other and highest level of alertness in order to prevent any terror or law & order incident on the day of the celebration of Republic Day in Jammu.
According to the DGP, continuous attempts are being made by the adversaries from across the border to disturb the peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
“As such, joint area domination, special nakas, and revisiting anti-terror/anti-infiltration security grids, among other strategies are required to be put in place to foil their nefarious designs,” he told the officers.
A statement said that all participating officers agreed to implement proactive security arrangements at each venue across the Jammu region where celebrations are scheduled. The emphasis was laid on placing personnel strategically at vital locations to ensure incident-free celebrations.
The meeting underscored the importance of strengthening human intelligence and leveraging technology to enhance security measures. Religious heads were also identified as key partners, and officers were directed to engage with them to maintain peace and stability.
Officers were also directed to monitor social media platforms, report, and rebut any misinformation. Strict action was advised against users sharing concocted, anti-social, and anti-national content.
The top cop highlighted the importance of a proactive approach and using all legal tools available.
Officers were directed to increase the physical movement of leadership in their respective jurisdictions. This involves ensuring that all vulnerable places, pockets, and spots are covered through different security checks.
The meeting concluded with assessments from various forces, including the Army, CAPFs, Police, and Intelligence agencies, providing detailed insights into different challenges anticipated on Republic Day.
ADGP Armed, J&K, SJM Gillani, GOC 26 Division, Major General Gaurav Gautam, and other high-ranking officials attended the meeting.
