Maintain, protect Waqaf properties: Omar

SRINAGAR, Sept 18: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, who is also chairman of Muslim Waqaf Board today gave nod to a proposal regarding Makran Marble Clading for Hazratbal tomb and fixed December 31, 2013 the target for completing the work in all respects.
The Chief Minister was chairing 18th meeting of Board of Directors here in which presentation about the Clading of Hazratbal tomb and expansion of Shrine complex was made by Architect Munir A Khan explaining all details of the proposed projects to be executed by JKPCC.
The Chairman Waqaf Board also directed for constituting sub-committees for all major waqafs involving locals in the development and maintenance of Muslim Waqaf properties. He also asked for constituting sub-committee on education to look into the aspects of improving the status of schools being run by Waqaf Board. He said the Committee should submit its report to the Board after looking into the infrastructural and academic requirements of these schools so that a suitable plan for upgradation is put into place to improve these both academically and in the infrastructural status.
The Chief Minister said that all measures should be put into place to maintain and protect Waqaf properties and expand its activities for upliftment of needy and poor.
The meeting discussed matters relating to the education, handing over of major construction works to R&B, constitution of State Nursing Council, recommendations of finance committee, under floor heating system of sanctum sanctorum of Hazratbal shrine, preparation of educational documentaries and development of Eidgah etc.
The members of the Board raised various issues pertaining to the Waqaf Board and the Waqaf properties which were deliberated upon in detail and decided subsequently.
The Vice Chairman Waqaf Board, M. Y. Qadri stated that the Waqaf Board has shown remarkable increase in the income. He said the income has gone up to Rs. 22.77 crores in 2012-13 as against Rs. 8.19 crore in 2004-05.
He said measure works including reconstruction of Ziyarat Peerdastigeer Sahib, construction of Jamia Masjids Kabamarg and Kakapora, repairs and renovation of various shrines, new building for Bibi Haleema College, Medical Laboratory, Ziyarat Sharief Nadihal, new School building at Ahmi Sherief, construction of Hamam and bathrooms at Mukhdoom Sahib etc is presently being executed by JKPCC, PWD and Waqaf Board.
The Board approved annual budget of Rs. 10.09 crores of the Waqaf Board for the year 2013-14.
