RAMBAN, June 3: Police foiled major bovines smuggling bids by rescuing 172 cattle and arrested six persons.
As per police sources, a team from Ramban police station laid a naka and intercepted four trucks bearing registration numbers JK028A-0047, JK02AP-8767 JK02AP-7317 and JKO2U-2969.
During checking, police rescued 97 bovine animals from the vehicles and arrested one person, while other cattle smugglers managed to escape from the spot.
The arrested person has been identified as Khadam Hussain, son of Mohammad Shafi of Jakheni, District Udhampur.
Cases under FIR Numbers 62/17, 63/17, 64/17 and 65/17 have been registered at Ramban police station and investigation started.
Meanwhile, a team from Banihal police station laid a naka and intercepted two trucks bearing registration numbers JK02AH-5977 and JK02W-1989.
Police rescued 22 bovine animals from the trucks and arrested one person, who has been identified as Nazir Hussain, son of Sher Mohammad Gujar of Dhagwar District Poonch.
A case under FIR Number 63/17 has been registered at Banihal police station and investigation started.
In another incident, a team from Ramsoo police station rescued 53 bovine animals from two trucks bearing registration number JK05A-9246 and JK02-9086 and arrested four persons.
Cases under FIR Numbers 41/17 and 42/17 have been registered at Ramsoo police station and investigation started.
The whole operation was conducted by DySP Headquarters Ramban Imtiaz Ahmed under the supervision of Additional SP Ramban Mushtaq Choudhary and SSP Ramban Mohan Lal.
