SRINAGAR, Nov 9: In a major crackdown against militants in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, security forces today conducted searches in 13 villages to flush out militants while security forces arrested an Over Ground Worker (OGW) and militants shot at a cop.
Army’s 62-Rashtriya Rifles (RR), 3 RR, Shopian Police along with Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) today launched cordon and search operation in 13 villages of Shopian district to flush out militants.
Security forces cordoned off Kadgam, Barbugh, Chiterwich, Imamsahab, Hillow, Manihel, Amarbugh, Badimarg, Yamrch, Munad, Gofan, Woyen and D K Pora villages in Shopian district early today to flush out the militants.

They conducted house to house searches and were looking for militants at suspected places. However, no one was arrested during the operation.
This is first such major operation in the district this year after security forces launched ‘Operation All Out’ in Kashmir against militants.
Sources said that the operation was launched to prevent militants from attacking the political workers, security force personnel and their families.
In the meantime, militants today shot at a Special Police Officer (SPO) attached with Traffic Police near the office of Deputy Commissioner Anantnag in South Kashmir.
The cop has been identified as Ranveer Singh son of Sobedar Singh from Chattisingpora- Mattan area of Anantnag district.
Cop was shot in his abdomen near DC Office while he was on his routine duties. He was later shifted to the District Hospital Anantnag where he is undergoing treatment.
And Kulgam Police today arrested an Over Ground Worker of Hizbul Mujahideen who was tasked to kill security force personnel and snatch their weapons.
Police said that they received credible information that some OGWs affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) have hatched a criminal conspiracy at the direction of its ‘operational chief’ Riyaz Naikoo to kill police and security force personnel and snatch their weapons.
“These OGW’s were roaming in the area from one place to another to seek a chance to attack on police security personnel”, police said.
Police spokesman said that the commander has provided weapons to these OGWs for carrying out subversive activities in District Kulgam.
He said that acting on this information, Kulgam Police launched a manhunt and arrested one OGW identified as Showkat Ahmad Lone resident of Charsoo affiliated with HM outfit. “One pistol, pistol magazine and 4 pistol rounds were recovered from his possession”, the spokesman said.
A case (FIR number 63/2017 under Sections 7/25 120-B, 307 RPC, 10, 13(2), 18, 20, 38, 39 ULAP Act) has been registered in police station Devsar and investigation of the case is going on. “More arrests are expected in coming days”, police added.
