SRINAGAR, Mar 6: A major ENT surgery was conducted today at the District Hospital, Pulwama, as part of the National Program for Reduction of Deafness, with the case being the first canal wall down Mastoidectomy performed at the DH.
DHSK said that the patient belonging to district Baramulla came to DH Pulwama with a history of recurrent discharge right ear. “The patient was evaluated and a diagnosis of cholesteatoma was made based on radiology and clinical findings.”
The patient, following the evaluation, underwent Modified Radical Mastoidectomy with Type 3 TP. “The procedure involves removing the entire mastoid bone to access the disease and subsequent removal of cholesteatoma with subsequent reconstruction of the hearing mechanism.”
The officials said that the procedure was successful and carried out by Dr Irfan ul Shamas, Consultant ENT DH Pulwama, Dr Ajaz Mir, Anaesthetist, Junaid, OT scrub, Fancy Rashid, anaesthesia technician, Khurshid Ahmad and Wahid Shaban. Logistical support was provided by Dr BS Tulla Medical Superintendent.
