Major fire breaks out in Trikuta hills, choppers shifted from base camp helipad

JAMMU: A devastating fire today broke out in the forests of Vaishno Devi located Trikuta hills while the heli service providers have shifted the choppers from Katra base camp to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Kakrayal as preventive measure.
”A major fire broke out in the jungles of Trikuta Hills, which could not be controlled despite hours long ongoing operation launched by the Shrine Board officials, firemen, Shrine Board staff, police and CRPF,” official sources said.
They said the fire broke out in the ridge adjoining areas to Banganga and have spread to the wide area of the forest, which is few metres away from the  Katra based helipad.
”The heli companies as preventive measure, shifted their landing base from  Katra helipad to Kakrayal University for safety reasons,” they added that the  fuel stock has also been shifted there to avoid any untoward like  incident.
Himalaya and Global Vectra are Heli companies operating from Katra town to Sanjhi Chhat while around 100 sorties are being carried by the choppers everyday. (AGENCIES)
