SRINAGAR, June 9: A massive fire broke out this evening in Pahalgam tourist resort in South Kashmir in which 22 shops, a hotel and Tourist Reception Centre was gutted.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police South Kashmir, Vijay Kumar told Excelsior that fire started from Hotel Poornnima due to cylinder blast and it engulfed the adjacent buildings damaging 22 shops and TRC.
Kumar, who rushed to the spot, said that no casualties took place and all the people were evacuated.
The DIG said that 15 fire tenders were dousing the flames. These fire tenders were brought from Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama and Srinagar.
“A fire has broken out in Pahalgam & has engulfed the Tourist Reception Centre & Hotel Poornima. I’ve been told both buildings evacuated” tweeted Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
“Fire brigade on the scene but strong winds have increased the risk of the fire spreading. The situation is being monitored & tackled” he said in another tweet.
