Major Gogoi is pride of nation: Kaul

JAMMU, June 3: The honour given to Army officer Major Leetul Gogoi is a matter of pride for all patriotic Indians, Prof PL Kaul, State Convenor BJP Human Right Cell said today.
In the recent past an atmosphere was created by certain groups of persons to make people believe that those who abuse India are the freedom fighters. An announcement of rewarding the army officer at this time has led to the felling of pride and honour of the entire Nation, he added.
Major Gogoi who had tied one of the stone pelters to a jeep during polling in the Srinagar Lok-Sabha by elections on April 9, was honoured with the Army Chief Commendation Card for his sustained efforts in counter insurgency operations. Instead of firing to avoid causalities, his novel idea saved at least two dozen persons including stone pelters, polling staff, ITBT persons and one J&K constable. Major Gogoi displayed wisdom, initiative, presence of mind and team spirit in handling such an adverse situation and saved precious lives, said Prof Kaul.
“Indian Constitution does not permit the pelting of stones, heckling the jawan and throwing petrol bombs on the security forces while they are performing their duties. Why these people remain silent and do not criticise the acts of stone pelting. Pakistan is a rogue country that always plays a religious card to instigate youth of Jammu and Kashmir to inflict violence in the Valley and the country”, said Prof Kaul.
He appealed to the students, their parents and teachers to woo the students towards their studies and don’t let them to indulge in such harsh and brutal acts.
