Major infiltration bid foiled, operation going on near LoC

SRINAGAR :  Alert troops foiled a major infiltration bid from Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) in Furkiyan Gali in the frontier district of Kupwara.
The operation in the dense woods was going on, defence ministry spokesperson Naresh Vij told.
He said troops at Hema Post noticed a group of about nine militants infiltrating into this side from PoK under the cover of darkness late last night.
However, when the heavily-armed militants reached near the fence in Furkiyan Gali, troops challenged them.
“The infiltrators, under the cover of indiscriminate firing from across the border by troops, tried to flee back. However, our troops also retaliated,” he said, adding that many militants were also shot at.
There could be casulties of militants as troops could see the bodies on other side of the fence.
Mr Vij said reinforcement was rushed to nearby forest to seal the entire area.
The operation was still going on when the reports last came in, he said.
