Major narco-terror module busted, 10 arrested; heroin worth Rs 25 cr seized

SRINAGAR, June 19: Security forces today busted a major narco-terror module in Kashmir and arrested 10 persons and recovered 11 packets of heroin worth Rs 25 crore including arms and ammunition and huge amount of cash from them.
The Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar told Excelsior that the operation was jointly launched by the Baramulla Police, Army’s 52RR and 53Bn CRPF. He said that the module was operating in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir and some neighbouring states.
He said that 10 persons were arrested from whose possession, 10 grenades, 4 pistols along with 4 magazines and 20 rounds were recovered. He said that 11 packets of heroin weighing over 5 kgs, and cash amounting to Rs 21.5 lakh besides cheques amounting to Rs 1 lakh were seized from them.
Kumar said that one small LP truck, a Verna, and a scooty along with several other vehicles used by the operatives were also seized by the Police.
Giving further details, the SSP Baramulla  Rayees Mohammad Bhat, told a news conference that on June 18, 2021, on specific information, a Naka was established at Bandi Uri and during the Naka checking, one vehicle Maruti Swift coming from Lagama towards Baramulla, while reaching near Naka point, was signalled to stop.
He said, the driver tried to flee prompting the Naka party to swing into action and stopped the vehicle tactfully.
Those arrested from the car were identified as Sajid Ahmad Shah son of Mohammad Nazir Shah of Lalpora Lolab Kupwara, Sharafat Khan son of Lal Badshah Khan of Keran Kupwara and Shahid Hussain son of Wali Mohammad Rather of Khaipora Tangmarg.
The arrested persons disclosed that some deliveries had been taken by some other parties. Upon their disclosure, special Nakas were immediately established and in the series of actions resulting in three more arrests of Reyaz Ahmad Hajam son of Ali Mohammad Hajam of Yarikah    Chadoora Budgam, Adil Bashir son of Bashir Ahmad of Nemthal Chadoora Budgam and Angraz Singh son of Harjeet Singh of Chadharpur Tehsil, Ajnala District, Amritsar Punjab.
Tracing the chain, the IG said that they have been able to arrest few more people linked to the case from Jammu.
“Our teams in Jammu have made some arrests with assistance from the Jammu police; 3 out of 4 arrested people in Jammu belong to Punjab and had come specifically to take the delivery of the seized items,” he said.
Those arrested from Jammu have been identified as Raman son of Prem of Housing Board Colony Ferozpur Punjab, Rohit son of Gopal Chand of Bastia Border Road Ferozpur, Punjab, Krishan  son of Vijay Kumar of Bastia Border Road Ferozpur Punjab and Fayaz Ahmad Khan son of Mohammad Ashraf of Keran Kupwara.
“It is a big catch for us and we are hopeful of getting more leads in the case and we are expecting more arrests in this regard,” he said.
Commenting over the source of the seized items, the SSP said that it appears that they were sent from across the border and were to be transported to the identified spots and in the black market the value of the seized heroin is about Rs 25-30 crore.
