Major rail tragedy averted; Amritsar and Jammu sections affected

PHAGWARA:    A major rail tragedy was averted though down line rail traffic on the Amritsar-Delhi and Jammu-Delhi rail section remained suspended for around four hours due to power failure as a Polo car  rammed into railing of a over bridge near Chiherru and the railing fall upon power lines and the “Pantoo” of Delhi-bound  Katra-Delhi Sampark-Kranti Express.

Due to this, power lines were damaged and power supply went off around 0059 hrs at midnight last night.

The car was badly damaged in the mishap and was impounded by Railway Protection Force (RPF).  Station Superintendent Phagwara Gyan Chand said today that a new Diesel Engine brought from Ladhuwal (Ludhiana) was sent to the site and the stranded train could proceed for its destination  with Relief Engine around 0410 hrs.

RPF has registered case under section 154/174B of Railway Act against the unknown car driver who managed to escape from the site.

Meanwhile Jammu-Sialdah Express train remained stranded at Jalandhar Cantt Railway station, Delhi bound Shatawadi Express at Jalandhar, Shalimar Express at Jalandhar Cantt, Jammu-Gorakhpur  Amarnath Express at Jalandhar Cantt, Amritsar-Chandigarh superfast at Kartarpur, Garib Rath Express at Suchipind, Madrass-Janta Express at Suchipind, Shri Shakti Express at Alawalpur, Nanded bound Sachkhand Express at Kartarpur, Amritsar-Delhi Superfast Express at Hamira,

Jansewa Express and Amarpali Express at Beas, Pashchim Express and Dadar Express at Zandiala Guru and could proceed for their respective destinations 2 to 5 hours behind the schedule after repairing the power lines. (AGENCIES)
