5 injured in grenade blast at Nishat

Srinagar, Aug 21: Security forces today averted a major tragedy in Tral area of Pulwama district by recovering a 10-12 kilogramme Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
The IED was recovered by Police and Army in a joint operation at Beigund area of Tral this evening which was launched on specific input that was generated by the Police.
A Bomb Disposal Squad has been called and it is being destroyed.
An official said that a major militant strike has been averted by the timely recovery of the explosive material.
He said that the militants were planning to plant on the road that is being used by the security forces to cause casualties.
The official said that a case has been registered in Police Station Tral and investigations are going on to find out the militants who had made the IED and were planning to plant it.
He said that there is pressure on the militants that is why they are resorting to IED and grenade attacks.
In the meantime, militants hurled a grenade in Nishat area of Srinagar today injuring five persons. There was huge rush in the area at the time of blast due to Sunday.
Five persons were injured in the grenade attack and they have been identified as Aadil Ahmad Bhat, 26, son of Nazir Ahmad Bhat, Umar Rashid Mir, 28, son of Abdul Rasheed Mir, Naseer Ahmad Baba, 40, son of Abdul Salam Baba, all residents of Pantha Chowk Srinagar, Mohammad Tahir of Chattabal Srinagar and Shugufta of Pulwama.
The injured were immediately shifted to hospital for treatment. Tahir and Shugufta received minor injuries and were discharged after first aid.
Security forces immediately reached the spot and area was cordoned off. However, no one was arrested.
Police have registered a case and investigations are on to find out the militants responsible for the attack.
It may be mentioned here that security forces yesterday arrested two hybrid militants of LeT from Budgam who were responsible for a grenade attack in Gopalpora area of Chadoora in Budgam district early this month in which a Kashmiri Pandit was injured.
