BARAMULLA, June 24: A major tragedy was averted by troops of Sultanpur Kandi Baramula Army 52 RR Camp, early this morning when fire broke out in a house in Ganai Mohalla, Dudbug.
The fire quickly spread to the upper floor of the house thus endangering the neighbouring houses as well. The troops of Sultanpur Kandi Army Camp immediately swung into action and rushed to the site. One team of troops, with utter disregard to personal safety, entered the house to salvage the personal belongings and other household items while another team set about dousing the flames along with the local villagers and thus limited the spread of fire to nearby houses.

The troops requisitioned the fire brigade to ensure that any simmering embers are extinguished, thereby preventing another outbreak. The troops also provided immediate relief in form of rations and other items of sustainability to the family to help them to their feet again. The local villagers and administration were grateful to the Army for their prompt action and conveyed that they felt safe and sound in the knowledge that the Army will respond to every beck and call of the Awaam.
